EDUCATION
The mission of the Education Committee for the Historical Society is to engage, share, and demonstrate the history and heritage of Yamhill County. To that end, we have taken our full-sized replica of a covered wagon to schools. Children have been able to get in the wagon, try on pioneer clothes, play with toys, and play games that children over 100 years ago played.
During the spring of 2009, we received a Dal Baker grant that allowed us to bring 1300 children from throughout Yamhill County to the Heritage Center to participated in Pioneer Days. It was a hands-on experience for the students. They planted wheat and trees, made candles, watched goats being milked, sheep sheared, blacksmiths work, pretended like they were mules in harness, sewed cloth, washed clothes, saw a timeline of the last 200 years in Yamhill County, got in a covered wagon and a stagecoach and much more.
During May of 2010, Yamhill County students are invited to once again participate in Pioneer Days.
